  Diesel engines installed on vessels, diesel power plants and heavy industry operate continuously non-stop except the stoppage of operation for maintenance purpose. It is obvious that due to continuous running of diesel engines and reciprocating equipments, the crankshaft develops following problems:- Development of taper and ovality beyond the specified limits. Development of rough surface of crankpin and main journal diameter. Line marks, pitting marks due to use of bad quality oil or use of lubricating oil for prolonged hours. Development of bearing line marks, pitting marks due to failure of bearings or removal of bearing top layer. Development of cracks due to accident or failure of crankpin and main journal bearing.
