  Diesel engines are operated continuously irrespective of its application whether they are installed in diesel power plants, heavy industry or on ships. Maintenance schedule of diesel engine is followed in most of the cases as per the engine manufacturer’s manual. The dedicated team of technicians and engineers take care of day to day maintenance and operation of the engine. Inspite of all the precautions taken, it is observed that the major accidents in crankshaft takes place, few of the reasons are as following:- Crankshaft failure: - Use of non standard lubricating oil or using it for extended time without changing it. Use of bearings beyond the operating hours specified in the maintenance manual of the engine manufacturer. Use of substandard lubricating oil filters and using them beyond the specified hours.
